I've definitely dealt with both and I MUCH prefer working with female therapists/psychologists/psychiatrists. I feel that males who work in the mental healthy field, tend to group certain things as 'girl issues' and just chalk it up to that and not look at the problem further. I'm sure that working with a woman may also pose problems, but I feel that I've had much better luck.

Well I have never spoken to a therapist before, but if I have to I would want it to be female just so I can more comfortable for the first sessions. And then will see from there.

Male or female doesn't matter, unless of course it's Dr. Phil. Then I'd have to kill myself. But I've heard it's hard to find the right therapist where you are working as a team, so limiting it to one gender could only make it harder.

I would just like a good therapist. Someone I feel comfortable with regardless of sex. My main goal in therapy would be to resolve what ever problem I was concerned with in my life.

Sugars, you may have biased the poll process by showing a picture of Dr. Phil... I can't stand that guy and would never want therapy with him.

This is a tough one, but I prefer a male. I think he could give a more reasonable explanation for the crazy way I act!
