1 Artist Has an Awesome Response to "Why Aren't You Married?"

Whether we've got a ring on it or we're riding solo, women are amazing, plain and simple. And while society oftentimes wants to define us by our marital status or by the amount of children we have, we don't have to let it. One female artist, Suzanne Heintz, took a unique approach to protesting the norm, and the creepy-cool pictures speak volumes for the skewed idea of a "perfect" life and the hilarious impossibility that any of us could really attain it. And why would we want to, anyway? How boring! The photos show a woman going through major moments in her life — like a proposal, getting married, having a child, and life as wife — but with mannequins standing in as her family members. Tired of being asked why she wasn't married yet, Suzanne described the reason for the series on her site:

"This is a weird time in women's history. . . . our roles have never been more complicated by deeply ingrained mixed messages, from both previous and present generations. The term 'perfect' is no longer used to describe what we're all striving to be. . . . We are somehow never enough, just as we are. Even if we do have a finger in each of those pies, there is never enough time to do any of them to our satisfaction. We are constantly set up by our expectations to feel as though we are missing something. I thought it was high time to call this nonsense out publicly, because this notion of insufficiency is not just about me, nor exclusively about women in regards to marriage. It's about anyone whose life doesn't look the way it 'should.'"

Suzanne told us more about the series, saying that many people misunderstand its meaning. "It's just to illustrate, with humor, that women don't need society to declare us 'bona fide,' solely based on marital/maternal status," she said. "Life is life — in and out of [a] relationship."
