But I really don't like following them. Only like 5% of them. I have my own style that doesn't fall into any category. Most people say I'm a "prep" but I just let it go. I'd say I'm beyond that stage. But, hey, I'm in high school. Everyone is labeled. Not right, but still happens. superjules 8 years Well I never dress "hoochie like" or anything like that. I just liked my blue hair. And I like my tattoos. Whenever I get around my mom and her friends I get a lot of sighing and tsking. That sort of thing. I try to be respectful but it's not easy. One old man pushed me a little too far with comment about my hair. I told him since I wasn't coloring my hair for his pleasure I'd take his comment accordingly. It felt really good. :) tjzchouse 8 years 37?? Oh, honey, try 47. I've found that the older I get, the less I care what others think. If you like the way it looks, or makes you feel, then for goodness sake go with it (though appropriate to the situation--and, that doesn't mean having to conform). superjules 8 years It just seems like people in general want you to conform once you reach a certain age. Up until about 3 years ago my hair was black but my bangs were Manic Panic bright blue. I loved it. But I caught quite a bit of crap for it. "Aren't you a little old for that?" That kind of thing. I don't wear mom jeans. My 17 year old steals my clothes all the time. I want to please myself but at the same time I don't want to walk around making an ass of myself. DearSugar 8 years especially if you're 37, superjules. superjules 8 years Even if you're 37? Romai 8 years I completely agree. The only time I worry about what's "in" is when I have to go to an event or something and I know I'll be photographed, and that's to look like a good representative of the company. Other than that, I wear what I want. Who cares if this person would never wear such a thing or if it's too out there for that person's tastes. Who wants to be yet another clone anyway? SparklinSeahorSe 8 years Amen! THANK YOU! I'm constantly getting sucked into the whole 'trendy' superficial thing in our society today, and every once in awhile I remember myself and wear something crazy and unexpected. And I always end up getting compliments on it! popgoestheworld 8 years I am very un-fashion forward. And I love it!! I think of it as a blessing that I don't care at all about fashion because it saves me so much time, money, and energy. Sometimes I envy how put together some people are, but you know, I could easy emulate it and I choose not to. So I guess it's a sacrifice I make! almost-famous 8 years When it comes to fashion statments. Alot of women wear their jeans tucked into their boots. i hate it however most women love the look. if you want to make your own statment it seems like you have to be made fun of instead of being praised. just watch Tyra's show. they seem to want everywoman in the unitedstates to have a smiliar look. kendalheart 8 years Yea I agree with this one more than any other post! I think that it is so important to be an individual and not just go with what is popular. More people need to stand up and say this is me, accept it! mandiesoh 8 years THANK YOU! there are people who keep saying stuff like, oh your outfit's outdate. thats so irritating! while i have undying love for fashion, i believe people should only wear things they are comfy in, and what flatters them. there's no point in wearing the latest coat etc and looking like a cow!
