This Is It! Are You Watching John McCain's Speech Tonight?

This Is It! Are You Watching John McCain's Speech Tonight?

Tonight's floor session just started and I've already teared up once. I don't stand a chance. Trace Adkins sang the opening national anthem — no accompaniment, just his booming voice — and after one line, the whole crowd started to join him. Tentatively at first, then by the end the hall was ablaze with song. There is a heck of a lot of red worn in this hall tonight, and people are ready for the main event.

John McCain is set to take the stage at 10 p.m. ET, preceded by Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota; Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida; former Sen. Bill Frist of Tennessee; and Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas. What are you looking for McCain to say? What would constitute a home run?

Steph - I'm not necessarily saying that McCain had an "average childhood" either. I am only saying that Obama definitely didn't, and we shouldn't try to imply that he has any idea what the average American had to go through, because he didn't go through it.

I didn't watch all of it and I'm glad I didn't. He has terrible speaking skills and he fumbled and mumbled through the whole speech. In his mind he was thinking, "not another screw up Johnny get it together, if I don't ace this Palin will look like a saint or WORSE Obama." Boo at the RNC. Neither Palin or McCain looked likable. Attack, attack, attack. Really great mindset. And who the hell they think they are laughing at community organizers? They would be quick to call sexism if Obama laughed at Palin being a beauty queen. Hypocritical nonsense!!

Dave, have you looked in to McCain's childhood? I grew up on military posts, and they really aren't like Anytown, USA. At least Obama's experience speaks to him. "John had admiral blood in his veins seeing that his father and grandfather, both were admirals in the Navy. As his father was bound to various naval postings, the boy had to attend about 20 different schools. In 1951, the family finally settled in Northern Virginia and John joined Episcopal High School in Alexandria."

I'm back, and I'll reply to #261 and #264. I'm not saying he(or you) are not American. I'm just saying that he didn't have an average American childhood. He spent years overseas, which the average American doesn't do. He went to a private school, which the average American child doesn't get. How does he know what an Average American goes through, or has to deal with when he didn't experience it either?

Just watched it this morning, and fell in love with John McCain all over again. In regards to the RNC attacking the Dems, I saw attacks coming from both sides. I dont think that either is running a "negative" campaign, its pretty much business as normal for both sides, and that includes negativity.

Fox - As usual, I completely disagree. I don't think McCains campaign has been any more negative than Obama's, both have 527s who can say whatever they want. And I've seen some pretty nasty ads paid for by Obama. How long did Obama hammer on that 100 years quote before people realized how out there it was?And the RNC wasn't any worse than the DNC. Both are conventions meant to rally the base. Both are going to say inflammatory things to rally the base. The only difference is that RNC people chant USA and DNC people chant OBAMA. ;)

I just want to say that I hate when mccain tries to come off as this "nice guy" and he wants us to stop "yelling at each other". I mean, he's run a completely negative campaign (after he said he wouldn't) and his convention was a huge shark frenzy. what's up with that? why did he say he wouldn't run a negative campaign and then do it?

I'm sorry if this has already been posted. This is the e-mail I got from being on Barack Obama's mailing list. Friend -- Why would the Republicans spend a whole night of their convention attacking ordinary people? With the nation watching, the Republicans mocked, dismissed, and actually laughed out loud at Americans who engage in community service and organizing. Our convention was different. We gave the stage to everyday Americans who hunger for change and stepped up to make phone calls, knock on doors, and raise money in small amounts in their communities. You may have missed it, but we also showed the country a video with the faces and voices of those organizers, volunteers, and donors from every corner of the country. What you didn't hear from the Republicans at their convention is a single new idea about how to make the healthcare system work, get our economy moving for the middle class, or improve education. Just attacks -- on me, and on you. But what the McCain attack squad doesn't understand is that people like you -- who devote part of their busy lives to organizing and building their communities -- have the power to change this country. With your help, that's exactly what we're going to do. Thank you, Barack P.S. I can't believe that this topic has significantly fewer posts than any of the Sarah Palin threads. Very curious... :ponder:
