If Your Friend Was Gaining Weight, Would You Tell Him/Her?

It's such a touchy topic, but you and your friends pinky swore that you'd tell each other if you thought he/she was packing on some poundage. But when faced with your buddy, do you think that you'd have the nerve to actually say it?

Just look at Renee Zellweger. She's tipped the scales almost as many times as Oprah and Kirstie Alley have...just in a less obvious way. If she was your friend, would you tell her that she was gaining a little too much weight?

it depends on the person. some people i know are hyper sensitive and really take it badly or overreact to that sort of thing. they're usually my friends who were fat as kids so they're kinda scarred by it. but if we're close and cool like that and I know it won't freak them out in a bad way- sure i will

No, I'd feel too harsh and I wouldn't want anyone telling me that neither.

I wouldn't tell her either. My girlfriends and I were in this same boat. We promised to always tell each other the second we 'let ourself go'. Well unfort for me, my friend kept to it. The first she saw me after graduation she came to visit me. She brought a bunch of pictures from school and said "You are a little BIGGER than the last time I saw you" Then pointed at the pictures and said look how skinny you were there.

I wouldn't tell her. The reason is, I've gained weight recently. And I'm WELL aware of it. But my mother insists on bringing it up every time I see her, and it drives me freakin' crazy. People know when they're gaining weight and they're probably self-conscious enough about it as it is.

That is kinda "depends on your friendship" sort of situation. If you are really close and share everything, then yes, I would want them to tell me. But it would depend on the level of friendship that I had with the person.

I would tell her. My friends know that I will always be honest with them if they don't want to hear it then they know to go to someone else. Sure they know but know wants to be lied to about it! I would expect someone to tell me and they have. It usually means something else is up.

Actually, a tiny bit off topic, I think Renee looks BETTER with the "heavier" picture! I think it is more of a problem is your friend is TOOOO skinny, well all gain a little weight in depressing or hard times.

If it were a pinky swear, probably. But, I wouldn't want too. Usually, it has the reverse effect. So, rethinking this and my I would not. Although, my hubby has got mad at me when I didn't say anything to him. But, it always has the reverse effect. I'm sticking with no; sorry I screwed up the poll results. But, I would want someone to tell me. Lord knows they have only the opposite...gain weight. It drives me crazy. Definite NO people know what they look like.
