Secrecy

Rupert Thomson's novel Secrecy is a sexy, mysterious historical fiction set in late 17th century Florence about a fugitive sculptor commissioned to create a life-size replica of the grand duke's estranged wife.

Goodreads explains Secrecy as "a love story, a murder mystery, a portrait of a famous city in an age of austerity, an exercise in concealment and revelation, but above all it is a trapdoor narrative, one story dropping unexpectedly into another, the ground always slippery, uncertain."
