Parents of Girl Killed by a Drunk Driver Hear Her Heart Beat Again Inside the Chest of a Teenage Boy

On March 9, 14-year-old Katelyn Zimmerman was killed by a drunk driver while riding bikes with her brother, Dylan, in their Florida neighborhood. Four months later, Katelyn's heart is beating inside the chest of 14-year-old Alj Jeffries, who was in desperate need of a transplant due to his battle with heart disease. In a truly emotional moment, Alj was introduced to Katelyn's family, who got to hear their daughter's heart beat again inside Alj's chest.

"Thank you for the gift that I have gotten to be able to see more in life," Alj read from a letter he wrote to Katelyn's family. "Thank you for giving me a second chance. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, and Katelyn's, for being my miracle." After listening to Katelyn's heartbeat, her father said, "It put us at peace, knowing that Katelyn's heart is still beating, even though it's not in her."
