Baby Bump: Best Cities to Have a Baby

You may have hometown pride, but does your city cut it when it comes to raising a baby?

Fit Pregnancy magazine just announced its list of Best American Cities to Have a Baby. Portland slid into the most coveted spot followed by Minneapolis and San Francisco (home of Sugar HQ).

The cities were judged on specific criteria, the press release said:

Fit Pregnancy set out to determine what makes a city most advantageous for pregnant women, new parents, and babies, and to commend cities that provide a safe and healthy environment in which to have a baby. The magazine examined 50 criteria, including fertility services, maternal and infant health risk, access to hospitals and doctors, safety, affordability, stroller friendliness, and birthing options.

As for safest....we're not safe. We have so many bad areas, and the cities around us are dangerous like Norfolk, Portsmouth, Hampton, and Newport News. We have 7 cities linked together that make up one large area, Hampton Roads. I demand a recount. What other 50 cities were in the running?

lol I live in Virginia Beach. I say we have probably clean hospitals for babies, but as for parks...we only have one big one! It is called Mt. Trashmore, and as you guessed it, it is made from a former dump. We have smaller parks, but they're not in every neighborhood like I saw in Topeka and whatnot.

Denver doesn't surprise me for being on the list. It's a pretty health conscious city. Well Colorado is pretty health conscious anyways!

Finally, a midwestern state is on some kind of list on Sugar. I don't live in Minn., but I live in Wisc. so I am close, and I like to think that somethings carry over!
