The 12 Lessons You Learn as a Young Girl but Forget as a Mom

Baby Bump: Chinese Lunar Calendar

When you're pregnant, everybody makes his or her predictions on what you're having. I had waitresses ask me to stand up and turn around so that they could make their best guesses. Once, a homeless man told me I was having a boy. He was so convincing that I almost believed him.

But what most people believe to be the best indicator of gender, other than an ultrasound, is the Chinese lunar calendar. There isn't just one Holy Grail to reference so they can vary on calculating factors but all in all, they are pretty much the same. Based on a women's age at time of conception and the month she conceived, the calendar will tell you if you are having a boy or girl. While it's clearly not foolproof, it was true for me and so many of my friends.

If anything, it's a fun way to guess your baby's gender before knowing the facts.

It was wrong with my first son(at age 25,he was conceived in April which="girl")and right with my second son(at age 27,he was conceived in February which=boy)According to the this calendar,my 3rd one due in May should be a girl as it is supposed to be basically no matter when the conception happened as there are only 3 spaces for a boy the entire year at age 30!(conceived at age 30 in Sept),but again we'll see,I am hopeful for my girl but I'm not going to hold my breath either!!!

The problem I have with these calendars is that there is more than one version out there,so which one do you follow? Both claim to be the more accurate one,but we know that obviously only one can be right. In one version,I am told that I will have a girl(I have almost 9 whole months of the 12 available to have a girl no matter what month I conceive, almost all the months at age 30="girl"!)In another version though,I am said to be having a boy and there are only 2 or 3 months available in the entire year for a girl!)As I see it,one of the calendars will be right(LOL!)because it's either going to be a boy or a girl!!!I was told though that I am having a boy, however,a hand with fingers was circled and everyone around me actually sees a labia not a "turtle" which I'd seen with both of my boys immediately,so do I have an inexperienced tech? I don't know,we'll see!!!

well, its right for me, tho i wouldnt believe it if i didnt know for sure. anyway, my mom can figure out what ANYONE is having...she has never been wrong, from random women on the street, to me, and my sister in law, friends, and even celebs. its so amazing, everytime one of my friends gets knocked up, they want to visit my mom. lol.

It was right for my first, wrong for my second and I won't know about this one for a few more weeks at least, but the Intelligender and this agree that it's a boy.

It was wrong for me. I was 25 and conceived in July (7-7-07 was a lucky day!) and I'm having a boy.

I'm carrying different this time. With my son I carried very high (and was HUGE!!). I seem to be carrying a bit lower w/ this pregnancy (a girl) I was also on bedrest for 3 1/2 months at the end of my last pregnancy. Not at all an issue (luckily!) this pregnancy and I've been able to be really active. Perhaps that's also had an impact on how I am carrying??!!???

Oh, so exciting, it sounds like a few of you are expecting very soon! I am due with my second in June and not even showing yet. Of course, now I remember how badly you want your body back by month 9 so no rush for the bump to show. I wanted to say that I have a friend who carried it all in the front and hardly gained an ounce anywhere else and everybody was swearing she was having a boy... in fact I was the only one at her shower who guessed girl, and I was right. Then I had my son and I looked exactly like her so don't think this method is true either.

Oh, and I'll be happy if I can eat again soon. My mom sent us all this awesome food for the holidays and my appetite is all but gone. It's a rare day when chocolate doesn't even sound appealing. :( So I hope he drops enough for food to sound good again soon.

I think I'm carrying similarly, macgirl (oh, but I hardly ever need a bra regardless--heh). Pretty high and if you look at me straight on in certain clothes, it's not always obvious. My thighs/hips are a bit wider than they were, but I attribute that to the fact I haven't been able to exercise at all and as soon as I can't, I gain there first no matter what. I don't think I've dropped at all yet, but I'm not totally sure since I've had severe pelvic pain already for months and might not notice anything subtle. I too only have a few weeks and I have entered freak out mode! That's interesting, Greggie!

Oh and according to that chart, they're both supposed to be girls, as is this one.

That is so odd Greggie. The human body is a crazy thing.

"For those of you who have had multiple pregnancies did you carry different with different genders?" No but I carried VERY differently for the same gender. My first, I carried straight to the front and compact, and had a boy. The second, I carried low and all around, and had a boy. This time I'm very high and round. But I don't know if it's a boy. *lol*

I'm carrying very high, who needs a bra when you've got a high bump ;-) I saw my shadow yesterday and I have nearly the same shape as I had pre pregnancy- unless you're getting a side view ;-) I carried high with my first son but gained 80 pounds so I was a bit rounder all over. He dropped a few inches a few weeks ago and I was so happy. I could eat and breathe again.. but he appears to have grown enough to take up the room I gained by him dropping. Just a few more weeks. Just a few more weeks. Just a few more weeks. I have to keep reminding myself ;-)

How are you carrying, macgirl? I'm carrying mostly in front with my boy and haven't gained much elsewhere (some in my thighs, but next to none in my upper body above my ribcage).

My mom has a short torso, and she claims to have carried very differently between my brother and me. (BTW, this chart was correct for mine, but I think it's all-in-fun hogwash.)

Everyone who has taken a guess at my baby bump has correctly predicted boy. What I don't get is I really don't have much of a torso so I think I would carry the same if I were having a girl. For those of you who have had multiple pregnancies did you carry different with different genders?

I was 29 when i got preggo with my twins...and in July. It says blue on this chart so it was right...lol. As for future pregnancies, i need a chart that goes a bit higher in age *cough cough*....although i hate to admit it...lol. I dont believe this stuff though....such hodge-podge! ;)
