Baby Safe Feeder

Delilicious: Solids Made Easy

When it's time for your babe to start eating solid foods, it's time for mama's minor heart palpitations. While chewing and swallowing are second nature to you and me, it's something that every child has to learn. And part of the learning process can include gagging and choking scares.

When my wee one started eating solids, I was terrified. But one thing I found that helped her and gave me a lil piece of mind, was using the Baby Safe Feeder ($6). It was created by a father who almost lost his nine–month–old son to choking.

The nifty gadget allows you to put chewable foods like bananas and avocados into a mesh net, which has a tight screw on lid. Pass it on to baby and let her squeeze out the nutrients in safe portions. It can be messy, but your tot will find a sense of pride in feeding herself.

Ok, I have to admit that I find this ridiculous. Not that I didn't have any choking scares with my two...but, properly prepared food and close supervision should really be all you need.

My friend's boy loved this - although she was disturbed by the fact that the packaging said you could put meat in it. Ewwww!

The cleaning was very difficult for us too. I would stick to no-choke foods like Bananas and over-ripe melon.

The Sassy one comes with a plastic cover so you can bring it in your diaper bag and it won't make a mess. It's a little hard to get open (the safety mechanism is tricky) but my son loves to eat grapes in it. It's also great for melon.

Kids love it but makes a mess and hard to clean. Try giving frozen fruit in here, that seems to work better as far as the mess part.

I had one of these, and to be honest, it was awful. It was incredibly difficult to get food through, and nearly impossible to clean.
