Five Best Friends Accepted to MIT

Receiving a college acceptance letter brings about many emotions. While high school seniors are excited to get into their dream school, they also realize attending school often means leaving their family and — more importantly — their friends. For a few students in Los Angeles, however, that may not have to happen. Five seniors at Polytechnic High School, who happen to be best friends, were admitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dubbed by their principal as the "MIT Five," Raymundo Cano, Andrew Koh, Kevin Escobar Rodriguez, GiMin Choi, and William Lopez-Cordero can't wait to continue their education alongside each other.

"To be honest with you, I cried," Choi told NBC San Diego. "The fact that all of us got in, it's just more happiness to share." The boys, who have spent the last four years focusing on math and science, plan to pursue this field in college. While they have yet to declare majors, their passions range from environmental engineering to computer science to robotics. Whatever they choose, the five are glad that they will have each other to lean on when college gets stressful.

"Normally, after high school, that's where friendships split," Rodriguez told NBC. "But at least our little crew is going to stay together."
