There are few toys as universally popular as Lego. Since the 1930s, the company has encouraged kids to construct and play with their beloved bricks and minifigures. But it's Lego's themed playsets that tots covet throughout the year. From superhero and Disney-themed sets to Star Wars and new properties the company's created on their own, there is no shortage of options out there. This year, Lego introduced 250 new building sets. Here are 10 of our favorites.
Lego Kings CastleIn honor of the 25th anniversary of the Lego Castle theme, the company introduced the Lego Kings Castle ($100) that includes a whopping 996 pieces.
Jake's Pirate Ship BuckyDisney Junior's Jake and the Neverland Pirates is a runaway hit show, and the expansion of Lego's preschool DUPLO line to include Jake, such as the Jake's Pirate Ship Bucky ($40) set is sure to be a hit with young builders.
Heartlake HighThe Lego Friends line has opened the world of building to a girls who were never interested in the bricks before. The new Heartlake High ($50) is one of the largest sets available (487 pieces!) and includes everything a high school offers like a basketball hoop, science rooms, art rooms, picnic tables, a deli, and more.
Jabba's Sail BargeStar Wars was Lego's first licensed line of playsets and continues to be their bestselling line around the world. This year's Jabba's Sail Barge ($120) may be one of the most coveted sets yet. With close to 800 pieces, the barge actually opens so minifigs of Princess Leia, Han Solo, R2-D2, Boba Fett, Lando Calrissian, Luke Skywalker, and a Gamorrean guard can move about. But perhaps the most exciting part of the set is the inclusion of a Jabba the Hutt minifig and a bikini-wearing Princess Leia.
