Billy Ray Cyrus Made Mistake With Miley

Billy Ray Cyrus Tells GQ He Made a Mistake With Daughter Miley

Can a parent admit to making a child rearing mistake without insulting their offspring? In a somewhat emotional interview with GQ, Billy Ray Cyrus talked about where things went wrong in his relationship with his daughter Miley, 18. He said:

"How many interviews did I give and say, 'You know what's important between me and Miley is I try to be a friend to my kids'? I said it a lot. And sometimes I would even read other parents might say, 'You don't need to be a friend, you need to be a parent.' Well, I'm the first guy to say to them right now: You were right. I should have been a better parent. I should have said, 'Enough is enough—it's getting dangerous and somebody's going to get hurt.' I should have, but I didn't. Honestly, I didn't know the ball was out of bounds until it was way up in the stands somewhere."

While Cyrus's sentiment isn't an uncommon one, do you think it was a fatherly thing to say considering that Miley lives in the public eye?

Give it a rest, it's her life and she can do what she wants with it. If she gets a DUI tomorrow things might be different, but I can't say I'm severely disappointed in her right now. I'll admit she started acting out too soon, but this girl is almost 19 and like many 19 year olds, if she says to give a guy a lapdance who's gonna stop her? In retrospect, there's no reason why she can't learn from the past (smoking salvia = BAD) and tone it down.

He didn't seem to have a problem with it while he was acting on the show and receiving a paycheck. I really hope this doesn't turn into another Lindsay and Michael Lohan thing. The last thing that this family needs is more exposure.

I am glad he is talking about it. Yea he can't change what happened with his family but by talking about it he is warning other parents who may be in the same type of situation.

It's a little late for regrets now. The best thing he can do is get this poor child some help.
