Children Found Living Alone in Old School Bus

Children Found Living Alone in Old School Bus

Authorities are investigating a heart-wrenching case of child neglect in Texas this week after a postal worker discovered two young children living in a dilapidated school bus in the woods.

As the NY Daily News reports, the homeschooled siblings, a 5-year-old boy and his 11-year-old sister, have been living largely unsupervised in the makeshift home for months since their parents were jailed on fraud charges.

An aunt has been taking care of the kids, but because she works Monday through Friday, they've been left alone for 12 hours at a time.

CPS has launched an investigation. Read the full story here

Something more to this story than meets the eye. First, it says they were homeschooled. I don't know about Texas, but here in Ohio children have to pass tests given by someone else (authorized to give the test) to move on to the next grade. They don't just get to stay at home without proof of learning. Next, it says neighbors fed these children from time to time. If they were being neglected so greatly why didn't the neighbors report this. Being poor (like living in a converted bus) is not neglect...being left alone for hours unsupervised is. Not sure if the fullness of this story is being told.

I put the blame on the state. If you jail the parents, you take care of the kids PROPERLY!

What i fail to understand is that when they jailed the parents, they must have known that they had children. Why did someone not investigate then to make sure they were in a place of safety whilst the parents were incarcerated... Those poor children. I hope they are not too traumatised by this whole episode.

Why wouldn't the aunt put them in her house and put them in school so they are not alone all day!

It kinda sounds like she dont have anyone to help her..and no valuable resources to get childcare..fkr whateva reason they should be in school..sounds like if she has no help..if they attended school..no one would be avail to pick them up..maybe shr thought instead of havin them put into state custody..and have them separated..she thought by workin immense hrs to save for an apt..would b the only eay to keep them together...

Leave it to texas to drop the ball. Can't wait to leave this state. (Hubby is here on army orders). Why wasn't a caseworker following up on these kids? Epic fail texas - again.

THE AUNT IS AS BAD AS THE PARENTS! SHE SHOULD OF TAKEN CARE OF THOSE BABIES! SORRY SHE WORKS ALL DAY BUT IF YOU LOVE THEM THEY BECOME YOUR PRIORITY AND FIND A WAY TO TAKE CARE OF THEM! I HOPE THEY GET PLACED SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY WILL BE LOVED AND HAVE A NICE PLACE TO BE COMFY!

I'm sure they were called "homeschooled" to clarify that their teachers/bus drivers and whoever else might have had daily contact with them, hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary... They were enrolled in a home school program... This makes me extremely sad. I can't imagine doing this to a child, weather it is your child, you neicce/nephew, or a complete stranger... :(

I'm just glad that these poor children were found before something more tragic happened to them. It is a horrible story and I hope their aunt is punished severely.

My only thought is why are they described as homeschooled children instead of neglected children. They obviously were not being homeschooled or there would have been someone with them, teaching them. They were being NEGLECTED! It is a pitiful thing and it should be called what it is.
