Cindy Crawford on Child Birth on My Best Birth

Cindy Crawford Delivered Her Baby, Who Delivered Yours?

When someone asks me who delivered my baby, I don't hesitate to tell them Dr. Joe. They know that I pushed the child out, but they want to know which professional helped me labor through the process. In Cindy Crawford's fourth and final episode of her My Best Birth webisodes, the model mommy explained how having a midwife at home truly gave her the ability to claim that she, and she alone, delivered her baby. While I get what she's saying, I wonder if some might find her proclamation a bit insulting. Are those who received medical help or had their babies in hospitals any less owning of the action of "delivering"? And what about mothers who required emergency C-sections? Watch the quick clip and tell me what you think of Cindy's perspective.

Every woman should do what she believes is best for her and her baby and what she is comfortable with. A mother who breast feeds is not a better mother than one who does not. A mother who gets an epidural is no less a part of that birth than a mother who takes the natural route. Pregnancy, birth, and motherhood are not a competition.

Not having your baby in a hospital is NOT irresponsible. Being ignorant of your choices and options is irresponsible.

I delivered my son in a hospital and I did all the work. There was no one else pushing that 9 lb 7.2 oz baby boy outta me but myself. I did it in under 5 hours with no drugs. I give myself all the back pats. The doctor was there to make sure the little guy did not fall on the floor or anything like that but I was the one doing all the work. That is something I know for sure. It does not matter that I was in a hospital.

Every woman does deliver her own baby; however, most women who have hospital births with MDs don't claim that for themselves. It's all about "the doctor made me do this..." or "the doctor won't let me..." or "the doctor decided..." ALL women should be claiming the right to make their own choices regarding childbirth. Perhaps then they all would be saying, "I delivered this baby, thank you very much, but my doctor was so-and-so if that's what you're asking."

i can't stand cindy crawford. but the tape doesn't bother me, i think she did deliver her babies. i remember at the time thinking how irresponsible it was because of how many things could have gone wrong. there needs to be a doctor, a hospital. jmho. anyway, i don't feel any less a mom, person, whatever for delivering in a hospital (with full benefit of drugs!). it's not a competition. and btw, HATE the title of the show.

I'm getting so tired of women (and men) who think they are so utterly amazing. You had a baby. Many of us do it. While it is an amazing feat, we actually don't do it on our own. We have doctors, midwives, spouses, doulas, friends, and family that do a good part of the work, too. I would hate to deny the amazing job my doctor and husband did while I was in labor.
