Also known as oligohydramnios, low amniotic fluid affects about eight percent of pregnant women, usually in the third trimester. Symptoms include leaking fluid, measuring small, or not feeling much fetal movement. Since amniotic fluid is essential for a healthy pregnancy — it regulates temperature in the womb, cushions the fetus, and protects against infection, among other things — women suffering this condition will be closely monitored.
