Competition Between Mothers and How to Deal With It

My son is only 20 months so I haven't experienced the joys of school moms yet! I just can't wait.

I've met so many moms who are so quick to talk about how many volunteer hours they've worked, how close they are to the teachers and then ask who I am again, even if I've worked the same fairs or field trips they did. It's intimidating at first.

Yes! At the previous school my girls went to many of the parents over-identified with their kids. There was near hysteria over a low grade, and a minor achievement was broadcast for all to hear. It was weird to me. I refused to play along, which made me odd-mom-out. Changed schools and the issues went away. Seriously, the only one who cares about the grades of a second grader: should be the second grader. And don't get me started on home projects. Some of them looked like NASA expirmemts.
