Cooking with Kids on Their Level

Lil Tip: Bring the Ingredients to Their Level

Cooking with our kids is as rewarding an experience for them as it is a messy one for us. We know it is great for teaching our lil ones about healthy eating habits as well as expanding their math and reading skills.

Involving your youngest tots in the process is sometimes more of a hassle. They either want to sit on the counter where you fear they will slide off or teeter on the edge of a chair while adding ingredients to the bowl. A friend recently solved the "where to place your toddler" dilemma by moving the entire process to her daughter's level.

She opened up a large garbage bag on the floor and placed all of her ingredients and utensils on it. This gave her daughter a bird's eye view of the process and allowed her to get safely involved. If your floor isn't almost clean enough to eat off of, consider moving the activity onto a tot table!
