Dad Kicked Out of Game For Asking Son to Hold Beer

Is Holding Dad's Beer a Crime?

Parents should think twice before asking someone else — especially a child — to hold alcoholic drinks, as John Coulter of Glendale, AZ, recently learned. Coulter was kicked out of a football game at the University of Phoenix Stadium and received a trespassing citation after he handed his beer to his 15-year-old son to hold temporarily while he took a picture. Sgt. Wesley Kuhl of the Arizona Department of Liquor License and Control says Coulter was lucky he wound up with a modified citation, as providing alcohol to minors is punishable by as much as two years in jail and a $2,500 fine. But given the fact that his son wasn't drinking, but was just holding dad's beer so that he could operate his camera, Coulter says officials' actions amounted to "abuse and overzealous pursuing."
