Daddy Dolls Keep Kids Company When Parents Are Deployed

My kids miss their dad when he's at work so I cannot imagine how they would feel if his job took him oversees let alone into dangerous territory. Like our girl Citizen reported this morning, about 1.2 million children belong to families with an active duty parent and 40 percent of those kids are under the age of 5. So one company — Daddy Dolls, Inc., allows kids to hug their hero while he or she is away.

Made in the parent's likeness, the hug-a-hero dolls come in two sizes — 17 inch ($28) and 12 inch ($22). Created by a military wife and mother, the concept allows families to turn a full length picture of their loved one, a voice recording, and personalized message into a pillow-like doll. Made of durable microfiber material, the daddy doll is also machine washable. While it doesn't take the place of the deployed parent, it comforts the child until they come home.
