After reading a blurb on daddy showers from PhillyBurbs we took an informal office poll, and didn't find any guys ready to jump at the opportunity. But blogger and father of six Robert Nickell of Daddy Scrubs explains that dads can have a manly baby shower themselves to celebrate the arrival of their little ones. Ideas include a diaper potluck of sorts, when the guests bring a case of diapers to exchange for a beer and dinner. Read more

I don't get it. Baby showers are for women, and just not for men. There is nothing manly about a baby shower.

My hubby attended the baby shower that was thrown for me. I love the idea. So much attention is showered on mama. I think dads get left out of all the fun traditions of having a baby (parties & shopping), but get all the "grunt" work (putting together baby furniture, prepping the nursery, emergency runs for food cravings, etc...) I think it's a great way to bond w/mom over the new baby.

My husband threw a "man shower," as he likes to call it, for one of our friends. I threw the wife a traditional-ish baby shower one weekend and the next my husband took her husband and a bunch of their friends out shooting clays, drinking beer, grilling meat, playing poker and a huge bonfire. it was the husbands first baby (wife's 2nd) and my husband felt it was the last hurrah before all extra money went to diapers.

That sounds cute. I don't think it'll catch on very quickly, but I'll see if I can get my hubby to try it with his friends for our new baby. :) @Jojoma, most guys don't go to traditional showers because they're too feminine and girly. There's nothing wrong with them indulging a little in their manly side as an excuse to get free baby stuff. :)

so essentially the dads are promoting an "alcohol giveaway" for diapers? can't they have a tradition baby shower as well?
