Do Your Children Catalog Window Shop?

Do Your Children Catalog Window Shop?

My mailbox is filled with catalogs from every toy, children's clothing, and food company known to man these days. Every day, I haul the load to our kitchen table and my daughter gets to work, furiously flipping through the pages and pointing to the items she wants. I used to do the same thing as a child. Do your children do this?

My husband hates my catalog and magazine obsession. But actually liked look through furnishing catalogs while we got ideas to decorate our home, I thought that was odd.

I picked up a toy catalog this year to see what my daughter would be interested in. I got some great ideas for Christmas. Sometimes she'll want to look at it instead of reading a book. Also I remember my sister and I looking through the toy catalogs and dreaming it was fun.

No way. I toss them as soon they come. I am so paranoid about materialism. I don't want my kids to think Christmas is all about what they get. I do take them shopping for other people, though. They help me choose the toys for their cousins.

oh god yes, that's our tradition they circle what they want, after that make their Christmas list, then we mail the letter and the catalogue pages that are circled to the north pole.

My 2 and 4 year old love doing that! They do it with commercials and ad's."Mommy can we have that for our birthdays?! mommy! can we have that for christmas?!":smack:

My 5-year-old does but not in a list-making way. He just likes to use them like books and "reads" them, especially if they have anything Mickey Mouse.

My 7 year old keeps them under her bed and near her booster seat in the car so she can browse before bed and while she rides. Her favorites are hanna andersson, Lands' End and American Girl.

LORD YES! LOL My youngest always grabs the Toys R Us big toy book and the Lego catalogue the INSTANT they arrive and starts making his Christmas list. I think we'll be lucky this year, he's only got 50 items on his list this time. LOL
