Feb 11 2010 - 12:30pm

Aside from the obvious — diapers, layette, and a bed of some sort — mommy may not need a whole lot to get through newborn life, but there are quite a few things that will make her life easier and more enjoyable. When we asked our LilSugar readers to tell us their newborn essential item [1], we got some responses worth sharing. Check out what goods moms think are crucial to survival and let us know what you can't live without!

Aden and Anais Swaddling Blankets

Member maenad25 [2] loved her Aden and Anais swaddling blankets [3]. She continued to use them through her child's first birthday!

Fisher-Price Bouncy Chair

Schnappycat's [4] newborn "must have" was her Rainforest Bouncer [5]. She said, "He napped in it, played in it (he loved to kick!), and it was the one safe place I could put him at any time. It was a sad day at about 7.5 months when we had to retire it. It's totally worn out now, but I will definitely be buying another one if we have another baby!"

Nursing Pads

An anonymous user said breast pads [6] helped her the most.

A Chariot

Another member said the chariot [7] was her favorite item. She said, "Our Chariot stroller/bike trailer has been amazing! We have a double and since our youngest was born a few weeks before Christmas it's come in very handy! Aside from being able to walk, jog, bike and hike with it, it's completely enclosed to keep the elements out when needed. We go carolling every Christmas eve at our local "town square" and we were able to but the baby into her carseat in the chariot and close it all up and she was warm and toasty. No snow or chilling winds for her!"

Phil and Ted's Stroller

Topping LilSugar's [8] list is her Phil and Ted's stroller [9].

Baby Einstein DVD

Gigi_s [10] said the Baby Einstein Mozart DVD [11] was the only thing that would soothe her baby boy. She wrapped him up tight in the swing while he watched the video.

Tiny Love Clip and Go Musical Mobile

The Tiny Love Clip and Go Musical Mobile [12] saved mstrauss's [13] life.

Maclaren Rocker

Econinsf [14] said the Maclaren rocker [15] was the best. She said, "It has handles so I could pick her up and carry her safely in the rocker from room to room. It also folds up really nicely for travel."

Hotslings Pouch Sling

Chouette4u [16] said the Hotslings pouch sling [17] was her go-to item. She wrote, "When she was a bit older, my must-have was my Hotsling pouch sling. After I moved her out of her infant seat and into a convertible rear facing seat, I needed something to carry her in since I didn't want to get the stroller out all of the time. I started putting her on my hip with the sling, and for a good 9 months, it was the best thing ever."

Papasan Cradle Swing

Many mothers agree that the Papasan Cradle Swing [18] is top of the list.
