This is exactly why I use cloth diapers. When I heard that they take 500 years to decompose, it made me absolutely sick. Not to mention the harsh materials they are made with. No thanks!

They don't decompose, ever, becuase they are covered with plastic and kept away from the things needed to its much longer then 500 years, its as long as it takes the things above it to decompose, then the next set...etc. They are absolutely conveinent, but they aren't cheaper then cloth. Even if you buy the expensive ones, it evens out, and the diapers sell on ebay and sites like diaperswappers for around 80-85% of their original value once used. Most people buy them used, use them, and resell them for nearly the same price. We recently began cloth diapering, and our water bill only went up 5 bucks a month, compared to the 70 dollars we were spending a month on disposables.

Oh my gosh, 500 years? That's enough to make me research cloth!

They are terrible for the environment but for a family on a budget, they can be more economical then cloth.
