4-Year-Old Girl Saves Her Mother's Life by Calling 911 and Gets Big Reward

The 4-year-old Calise Manning was trained for this day — she just didn't know it would come so soon. The Kalamazoo, MI, preschooler is being called a hero after calling 911 while her mother — who was nine months pregnant — was having an epileptic seizure.

After hearing her mother fall, she picked up the phone and called 911. She spent more than seven minutes on the phone with the dispatcher, telling the person on the other end of the phone her name, her mom's name, her address, and what was happening. "She's shaking and she's having a baby," Calise said. "My mom is really pregnant, and she's having a boy, and she really needs help."

She did just as she had rehearsed with her mom, Centerria Manning, since she was 2. "I was so proud of her, because we practice, and I teach her because I am epileptic . . . I teach her the address and my full name and things like that, and how to dial 911," Centerria said.

Once help arrived, Centerria was taken to the hospital, where two days later she gave birth to a healthy baby boy the family named T.J. Manning.

Thinking back on the ambulance ride, Calise said, "It was really good to ride in the ambulance with mom, and she was really proud of me."
