We first posted about McKenna Pope, 13, in early December, when she asked Hasbro to make a gender-neutral Easy Bake Oven. Pope's little brother wanted one, but because the toy is marketed in a way that makes it look like it's only for girls, he felt uncomfortable.
Pope's efforts, which included a YouTube video and a petition on Change.org, have paid off! Her petition received over 40,000 signatures and garnered the attention of celebrity chef Bobby Flay, which in turn prompted Hasbro to invite the Pope family to their headquarters. There, they previewed a gender-neutral Easy Bake Oven currently in development. The new version will hit stores in the Fall.
