Motherhood comes with many highs and, yes, some lows, a fact that I was reminded of last week when my 14-month-old had her first temper tantrum. We were at the park having a lovely time when little miss decided what she really wanted to do was speed around the parking lot, narrowly missing moving vehicles and bikes and nearly face-planting on the concrete with her not-so-steady legs. When I picked her up to move her back to a more toddler-friendly location? Meltdown city!
I was then left to carry almost 30 pounds of flailing, screaming, red-faced child out of the park, past an audience looking at me with varying degrees of pity, horror, and annoyance. Not exactly the most fun moment of my life, but I think I dealt with it as best I could, and since then, I've been reading up on how to handle the next one.
