How Did You Announce Baby?

Technology is changing the way we communicate — just ask the guy who wrote the book behind the movie He's Just Not That Into You, Greg Behrendt. From weekly emails to grandma and gramps, iChat check-ins to full blown family websites, keeping in touch has never been easier. While I welcome the changes, I fear some techie tools and services overshadow some of my favorite formal traditions like beautiful printed birth announcements and the, "Yay! The baby was born!" call from daddy. How did you announce the birth of your bundle to your friends and family?

We never sent announcements for our first because I was in a total hormone snit through the whole pregnancy and thought it was just a waste of time. A few years later I was pregnant with kiddo number 2 and I realized that I regretted that decision. So a few days after she was born, we took a pic of older daughter holding the baby and my husband created a card that said "I have a little sister!"

The first two we did phone calls and announcements. The third, texts and phone calls and I never got around to an annoucement.

by phone immediately after and then a formal announcement by mail. my youngest (8 tomorrow!) recently came across her birth announcement and was really excited. she took it to school to show her friends, then they brought theirs in. it's fun to celebrate a new baby, why not do the formal announcements?

I'm years away from a baby of my own--but I don't think there is anything more beautiful than receiving a formal birth announcement. There are just so many special options! Obviously phone calls and emails are necessary, but they should not make these formal announcements obsolete.
