How Long Did It Take to Shed the Baby Weight?

Any mother can tell you what a bummer it is when the baby bump turns into a baby-less lump. More often then not, the sagging skin and fatty flesh take time to get rid of — sometimes months, even years. And while your prepregnancy bod doesn't even begin to compare to the beautiful baby you birthed, most moms try to regain their shape eventually.

mbrown - that's so funny. When I quickly glanced at the pic to pull it for the post — I assumed a baby was in the stroller! Guess s/he is off running down the beach...

I agree about body changes - in fact, at my lowest weight since having kids I look much thinner than I did at 10 lbs less than that pre-kids. For starters, I have more breast tissue, which weighs more. And the rib cage and pelvic bones spread as well.

Breastfeeding helped me to just shed the pounds really quickly while eating anything and everything. In some areas I am actually thinner than pre-pregnancy. My stomach is definitely not one of those areas, I don't know if I will ever get it back.

It really doesn't matter if you lose the baby weight, your body composition and shape completely changes. Well, let me not generalize. MY shape completely changed. I was back to pre-pregnancy weight within 3 months after each of my 3 kids. HOWEVER, my body looks much heavier than it did pre-pregnancy. And I don't see how my stomach will EVER look the way it did before. But I'm going to try! I've got 6 months until I hit the big 3-0. This is my goal!

I still had about 5 lbs that I wanted to lose... but I still fit into my old clothes and was able to wear a bikini, so no complains. Now I'm pregnant again, so we'll see what happens.

i gave birth 3 weeks ago. 20 lbs came off after giving birth, so i've got 15 more to go. i plan to weigh myself only once a week so that i don't become obsessed, and i think i've lost a few more lbs since my last weigh-in on thursday. i started back at the gym during week #2. i'm expecting that i'll have to resort to dieting to get off the final 7-10 lbs of baby weight. right now i'm caving into dessert cravings!

I lost the weight within a few weeks. The saggy skin is still hanging around a year later, but it hasn't been very noticeable for a long time, thank goodness.

I was back in my jeans in a week. I lost 8 lbs in the beginning b/c everything tasted horrible to me. I didn't have nausea...food was just gross. Then I gained 25 lbs. My tummy was flat again one week after giving birth.

My daughter is 10 months and I still have 10 pounds. I am still breastfeeding. I lost all but the 10 within a month after her birth. I am not really working at losing it right now, but once she is totally weaned I am hoping I shed it easily. Has anybody experienced much weight loss when they quit breastfeeding.

Wow, I feel pressure! I worked really hard to lose weight a few years ago, and now that I'm pregnant, I'm finding my extra weight (about 30 pounds so far) especially hard to take knowing how hard it is for me to lose any kind of weight. I really plan to work hard to get it off ASAP, but I've also slipped back into some of my unhealthy habits and haven't been able to exercise, so I'm really worried I'll never get to (or near) my pre-baby weight again. I'll just have to keep looking at pics of me at my thinnest for motivation! But, kudos to so many of you who lost it so fast. Amazing! I think my goal is about 8 months so I'm ready for our planned trip to Hawaii.

I gained over 80 pounds the first time around so it took me a whole year to get it all off. I actually liked my post pregnancy body better. Unfortunately I gained some of the weight back four years after. This time around I'm doing much better about my weight gain as I've only put on about 20 pounds with 5 weeks left. I'm hoping i'll drop it quick and work on that extra 35 I put on over the years since my first son. VERY impressed by all of you that took it off so quickly.

Let's see... she's almost 22 months and I've still got a good 35 pounds to lose. Still searching for the long-term motivation to make the necessary diet & exercise changes!

mbrown- I did notice that...weird. It took 2 months for me to be back in my pre-pregnancy clothes. I weigh less now than before I got pregnant. I don't think my body will ever be the same, though. I feel like my ribs have expanded...my tops all fit differently. But, I'm happy with my body.

Does any one else notice the stroller is empty. My youngest is four months old now and I like the wieght i'm at now. I don't want to lose to much more just because I have always been really tiny, and I look the look of a bit more meat on me. I do however need to tone the tummy. I'm sure it will never be the same since my c-section. My little man was well worth the scar and every little stretch mark .

With my first two, it was off within weeks but this time...it's been 7 months and it's still there. My stomach muscles didn't go back where they were supposed to be, so now I have a pooch. I'll have to have surgery to repair the muscles, maybe a tummy tuck at the same time?
