Jon Gosselin Mixes Parenting with Pleasure

Did You Give Up Bad Habits Once You Had Kids?

Whether it's drinking, partying, smoking, cursing or indulging in fatty foods — everyone has a vice. But for many people all it takes to kick that habit is a positive pregnancy test, ultrasound picture or the actual birth of their babe. Still it takes others longer to let go and some parents like TLC's most famous dad of multiples, Jon Gosselin, don't have a problem mixing child rearing with occasional pleasures. What did you do?

Clare, I know that's true for drugs like herion and cocaine (the hospital will detox the baby and cannot moniter detox, so the mother is often put on methadone -- at least for a herion addiction)... but I always thought it was just best to stop smoking, cold turkey.

I'm not a parent yet, but I doubt that I will give up all my vices. I dont drink that often so thats not really a big deal. But I do smoke weed and I can't say that I'm going to give that up 100% after I have children. It's no wonder Jon smokes up.....hell if I had 8 children I would probably do it too. But to the women who say they quit smoking right when they got pregnant - I've heard that you are supposed to cut back as much as you can, but not quit because it is worse for the baby to go through withdrawal symptoms than to just deal with the smoke

runningesq — we don't have childcare. My husband and I coordinated our work schedules to care for our kids ourselves. And where we live cabs, restaurant tabs and cocktails run closer to like $300 plus per weekend.

really, lil? Hop cabs and party = maybe $100-200/ month, TOPS. daycare ALONE = $1K/ month !

When people ask my husband and I how much it costs to have a baby, we say the same as it did to hop cabs and party all weekend and go out a couple times during the week. That's what we gave up for our firstborn:)

Before I knew I was pregnant with my first one I smoked but it started making me sick and once I knew I was pregnant I was like, oh well that makes sense and I quit cold turkey and I have not gone back. It was the best thing I ever did.

that is totally not a cigarette.and as a mother, i still like to have fun. there are times when, gasp, i'll go out with my girlfriends or husband without my children, and have a few drinks. it's good for friendships and a marriage to let loose without the kids. granted, there is no sleeping in unless they are at grandma's...

My dad quit smoking when he found out that my mom was pregnant. My mom, unfortunately, has yet to quit. (She smoked a bit when she was pregnant with me, a fact I blame for me being the shortest person in the family, for having A-cups compared to her D-cups, and anything else I can get away with, heh.)I am kind of square and I don't have any huge vices. I suppose if I had a kid, I'd probably have to stop swearing like a sailor. ;)

I will still drink occasionally when my baby's here, but I don't smoke and wont; especially not weed. I know so many parents who smoke weed and I just find it trashy. And, what a terrible example for the children.

I'm not a parent, but geez I would imagine having a kid makes you want to do those things more! Or at least not give them up completely. :P Anyway, I love to toke up with Mark Wahlberg!

The only bad habit I had was drinking I guess. I just had to stop partying, since I was still in my party years when I first found out I was pregnant. But I still have a good time. My husband has been trying since we met to quit smoking. He's cut back alot, but still has a long ways to go.
