Keith Urban Said He's "Mr. Mom," Doesn't He Mean Dad?

Michael Keaton made it famous, Lonestar sang about it and Keith Urban recently played the card, but isn't being "Mr. Mom" simply being dad? You don't hear working women say they are "Mrs. Dad" while at the office. Are we, as a society, as laughable as Jack Butler's antics in the 1983 flick? Like many fathers, Keith Urban relishes spending time with his new bundle of joy, two-month-old Sunday Rose. He told CMT Insider:

"When my wife's working and I've got time off, I'm just Mr. Mom during the day, taking care of the little girl," said Urban, 40, who also called fatherhood "beautiful."

Of course, the proud papa is referring to his taking on the primary caretaker role while his wife, Nicole Kidman, is filming a movie, but since when is tending to one's own tot not just considered daddy duty?
What's your opinion?

I don't have a problem with Mr. Mom. At the aquarium, they named the male seahorses that gave birth Mr. Mom and Big Daddy.

I think maybe the Mr. Mom joke is applicable when the husband is staying home and the wife is out working, instead of the "traditional" opposite situation. I think it's cute : )

I'm sure he was just making a joke. I have a feeling that Keith takes his dad duties pretty seriously.

It doesn't bother me. Especially from a country singer, who probably hears that annoying "Mr Mom" country song every day. *lol* Fathers who refer to time alone with their kids as "babysitting" bugs the hell out of me though.

<i>but since when is tending to one's own tot not just considered daddy duty?</i> I agree with glam .. very good choice of words!! This term really irritates me ... as does what Nak Nak mentioned.

I'd never considered this before....but at least it is better (but only a little) than hearing a dad say that he is babysitting his OWN kids. I always call dads on that when I hear it.

<i>"but since when is tending to one's own tot not just considered daddy duty?"</i>Good choice of words! There are things that I do so my husband doesn't have to (cook/clean/grocery shop/pay bills, etc.) and when I'm doing those things - I expect my husband to step up to the plate and help me watch her. (Now sometimes I give him a break and find ways to work around it. If I'm paying bills... she likes to copy me, so SOMETIMES if I'm not too rushed I'll give her a calculator, paper, and pen... but most of the time I need to focus on the numbers..) But yeah, sometimes I get that mom guilt for trying to do it all while they get to play, but it's all about getting the job done. I just make sure I get my mommy time in (which is more nurturing and sometimes play). And then he gets her up in the morning, I put her to bed. It all balances out. I wouldn't have had a child with him (or anyone) I didn't think he would make a great father/mr. mom! (I made sure to have it all planned out ..down to the grandparents, extended family, and our jobs around her. I've watched enough people struggle with crappy fathers and unplanned pregnancies to know better.)
