A quick show of hands . . . How many moms want to throw themselves off a cliff if they have to go to one more pizza party or bounce house bash? And really, the kids are sick of them, too. The problem is, coming up with unique ideas can be time consuming and often expensive. I've created some cool themed party ideas that will break the mold but not the bank. Even busy moms can pull these off without breaking a sweat! Kids Cooking Competition
Challenge your kiddos with interesting ingredients, cutthroat contests and coming up with creative cupcakes. Mom and Dad can be the judges. And the best news? The kids get to eat their creations when they are done.
This one is for the brave moms (and dads) out there who don't mind some laundry afterward! Have the kids wear old clothes and head outside to play paint Twister (place washable, colored paint on each circle and watch the slipping and sliding begin!), have shaving cream wars and play with silly string. Top the party off with a messy ice cream sundae bar.
Kids Cooking Competition
Think of this as a "G-Rated" rave. Have the kids dress in white and then provide lots of glow sticks, bracelets and necklaces that you can pick up at your local party store. Add a black light, some hip tunes and maybe a little karaoke, too, and you've got the makings of a nightclub-in-training that any tweenager will love.
Welcome to critter country! Get outdoors this spring and summer and host a party filled with creepy crawlies of the cutest kind including: Caterpillar Kabobs, Ladybug Bites and Bright & Beautiful Butterflies. Make crafts using recycled materials to complement the nature theme.
The "Almost" Sleepover
Kids not quite old enough for a slumber party? Try having a pajama party where kids can wear their PJs and bring their favorite blanket and pillow, too. Watch movies and fill up on traditional movie theater treats like popcorn and licorice. Send them home before bedtime.
Combine a love of learning with some cool experiments and the kids will go "mad." Try creating a Mentos and Coke geyser and see how high it can go. Make a magical mystery layered drink, make your own "fireworks" in a bowl of milk or create your own lava lamp to take home as a party favor.
Pitch your tents and roll out your sleeping bags. It's time to rough it (at least a little bit!). No technology allowed. Make s'mores on a stick, grill up some burgers and dogs, tell ghost stories and play outdoor games. And these Hot Diggety Dog Brownies go perfectly with the camping theme!
