Kids Backyard Parties

OnSugar Blog: Preschool Sun Fun

School is out, but friendships endure. Hosting a backyard preschool reunion like Jo Aaron is easy. Preschool Sun Fun comes from the Mommy Brain blog at OnSugar.

Toot!  Toot!  Yes, that's the sound of me tooting my own horn.  Fortunately, I received permission from my friends to do it, so it's not totally gross.  My son and I hosted 26 moms and kids from his preschool class for a reunion playdate at our house today and it was a blast.

Outside on the deck, I filled up two inflatable kiddie pools and a pirate ship water table and added floating toys, opened up the sandbox (most of which ended up in the pools), and turned on the bubble machine for a one and a half hour sunshine soiree. I made sure to provide an awesome new kids' spray-on sunscreen by Neutrogena, shade for the new infant siblings, and extra beach towels for our water babies. I try to cover all of the possibilities when party planning, although let's face it, when it comes to kicking it toddler-style, they've mastered the art of surprise.

Inside the house, I put out a mom-and-me spread for lunch that included cheese sandwiches, peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwiches, pasta salad, as well as snacks like apple slices, animal crackers, pirate's booty, and fishie crackers.

Yep, used a cookie cutter for the sandwiches-do it on a hard surface like a cutting board where you can really push all the way through the sandwich and after you pull the outside crust off of the cutter, give the inside sandwich a little tap to get it out without it falling apart. Just takes a little gentle touch. Happy hosting!
