Lil Tip: Capture Kid's Identifiers on Camera

Lil Tip: Capture Kid's Identifiers on Camera

It's better to be safe than sorry and since many families are headed to amusement parks and other crowded destinations with their tots this Summer, you may consider taking a few precautions. Yesterday, Greggie shared this great tip in response to how she keeps track of her kids. She said:

I take a picture of them before we enter so that if something were to happen, I could give that picture to the authorities as an exact description of what they were wearing.

Along those same lines, someone once told me that it takes a matter of minutes for a predator to change a child's appearance, so carrying pictures of your wee one's identifying characteristics whether it be a birthmark, a scar, or a unique eye color, could help in the event that he or she goes missing. While this is unsettling, it's best to be prepared.

Yeah, they tell you to update it every year, but the only things that change are your child's looks (photo), height and weight. And... in the case of my daughter, I suppose by the time she's 2 she'll have actual hair that can be described by color!

The ID card also has a fingerprint, which wouldn't need to be updated.

Go Greggie! I think a lot of us are going to be following your tip this summer. My kids don't really have any identifying marks, yet. I like the id card bessa mentioned. I guess you would just update it every year or so?

My daughter's daycare had a company called Postive Proof come out and offer ID cards for the kids. Their website is www.positive-proof.com. It's nice because now my husband and I have an ID card in our wallet with our daughter's fingerprints, a photo, her identifying characteristics and our info. I think it cost $10 for an ID card. But the digital camera (or cellphone photo) idea is great, because then you also document your child's clothing.

Whoa, recognition. :) Thank you!Good idea on the birthnmarks, too. I've always been a little upset that my second son has no natural identifying marks (neither do I). My older son and my daughter each have birthmarks.
