Make a Wish! A Sweet and Whimsical Birthday Bash

Feb 21 2012 - 6:01am

Birthdays seem magical when you're little, and for the lucky lil lady who celebrated her fifth birthday with this whimsical, sweets-filled bash, they probably always will. Designed by the owner of Frog Prince Paperie [1] for her daughter, Madeline, this party is overflowing with thoughtful, inspirational details, from its use of a beautiful, light-blue flea-market find as a dessert case to adorable activity stations, which allowed little guests to make their own ribbon wands!

Lots of sweet sparkles and, of course, a pink Swarovski crystal tiara for the birthday girl add to the magic of this party. Keep reading for all the lovely details, which will undoubtedly leave you wishing for your own fairy godmother — or at least your very own plate of star-topped pink Sno Balls (my favorite party detail)! Frog Prince created a printable package [2], so you can throw your own wish-filled party.

Make a Wish

The cake topped with stars and candles, created by Something Sweet Cake Studio [4], sat on a pink tea cart. Strawberry milkshake shots (a request from the birthday girl) acted as a birthday cake chaser, delighting guests!

Dessert Display

Paula of Frog Prince Paperie (the birthday girl's mom) painted a thrift-store china hutch blue and lined its back with scrapbook paper designed for the party. Some of the desserts displayed within: dandelion-inspired brownie pops and sparkling Oreo pops, custom-made "Wish" cookies provided by Dainty Delights [5], and Kandy Kones from Posh Party Pretties [6]. Twinkle pops and M&M-filled push pops were created by CupKates [7] (check out the site for lots of cute party extras).

Paula displayed wishes — collected from her blog and friends — around the party in bottles and in glass jars. Some of the wishes: rainbow princess unicorns, giant engagement rings from Justin Bieber, and abandoned Toys 'R' Us trucks (shown left).

Table Setting

Each place was set with pink melamine plates, a specially made birthday hat, an antique lace napkin tied with crystal napkin rings from Tradewind Tiaras [9], and a cupcake topped with a silver candle and in a cupcake wrapper from Laugh Loud Smile Big [10]. All the cupcakes were placed on individual stands from Blowout Party [11].

Decor and Cupcakes

Cute ribbon backers decorated chairs, and guests received a candle-topped cupcake to make their own wishes.

Display Art

One of Frog Prince Paperie's designers created this "Starlight, Star Bright" poster to display.

Ribbon Wands

Little guests had two preparty activities: making their own ribbon wands and sparkle-filled snow globes.

Favors were displayed underneath a cute tree. Little girls left with a star container that held a tiny star necklace that read, "Wish." Boys took home a star filled with chocolate coins for the wishing well, and adults received a small box of Godiva chocolates.

"Wish" necklaces were given to little girl guests.
