Maternity Clothes that Last Post Pregnancy

Which Maternity Pieces Lasted Well Past Pregnancy?

Paige at ShopStyle

Try as they might to stay out of maternity clothes, most expectant mamas eventually turn to panels and Spandex to keep themselves covered over their nine-month journey. Sixty-two percent of LilSugar readers said they succumbed to the spacious gear, with many telling us how much more comfortable they were once they made the switch.

Once baby has arrived, most new moms can't wait to shed the paneled clothes and once they've dropped the baby weight, the pregnancy clothes usually find their way into a box or a friend's closet. But for some, there are a handful of maternity items that make their way into the postpartum clothing rotation. A beyond comfortable pair of maternity underwear do it for some, while for others it is a roomy sweatshirt or two.

Which maternity clothes stayed in your closet even after the pregnancy pounds were gone?

Yeah i'm guessing the ones who did not "succumb" to maternity clothes must have been stay at home moms wearing sweats. I work in a very casual office but i still had to get a couple pairs of pants and several tops. I didn't start wearing maternity clothes until about 20-24 weeks because i didn't really show or gain much weight until then. But maternity clothes have been a must for me mainly because i am tall so all my tops got way to short to wear once i started to get even a little belly. For paints i wear regular leggings and yoga pants under tunics and then i have 1 pair of maternity jeans and one pair of maternity chino-type pants.

Anon @8: maybe they wore yoga/ sweatpants during their entire pregnancy? I don't know how any woman could button up her jeans when she's 8 mo preg!

Ah yeah no, that would be odd. I switched to maternity clothes pretty early this pregnancy. With my first, my job required scrubs and I just got bigger ones... and i wasn't that comfortable. I got maternity clothes for a company christmas party literally the day before I went into labor and i was sooo irritated that I hadn't sooner. I had no idea how miserable i was haha. Thank you! Yeah, we had a little boy. People like to make the "complete set" comments now.. haha.

Ohh okay -- that makes sense (I was thinking you weighed x amount when you got prengnat and didn't gain/ lose anything during the pregnancy). Your little one (boy?) is adorable !

I was obviously just referring to weight gained in regards to pre pregnancy clothing fitting. I realize that by gaining some of the lost weight back, I'm still gaining even if it's not much.

Well, both of my pregnancies went the same. In the first few months, I lose quite a bit of weight, enough for my ob's to give me the stink eye. Then, the small amount of baby/water/whatever weight I gain, I drop off within a week of having the baby. So, I end up below my pre pregnancy weight, usually. Weight is pretty subjective though. Things definitely don't fit as well, and I'm sporting the soft pooch as we speak.

MissSushi, how did you not gain ANY weight during your pregnancy?? and I don't know how only 62% of readers wore maternity clothes... the rest, I guess, must have worn sweats! I'm only 12 weeks but all my work pants are high waisted and too tight. I'm so much more comfortable now in maternity pants.

I'm still wearing my maternity pants and its been about 3 weeks. I didn't gain any weight this pregnancy, but im back to the soft tummy stage and haven't been looking forward to my reg jeans.

A few tops and a couple cardigans are still in use. Plus my lululemon pants made it all the way through the pregnancy and beyond.
