This Graduate Deserves Nothing but Praise (Especially Not Eye Rolls!) For Breastfeeding Her Daughter

When Amber Bowers graduated from Clary Sage College for massage therapy, the mother of three wasn't thinking about herself. Instead of focusing on her own accomplishments, this dedicated mama was worried about how she would be able to breastfeed her daughter during the ceremony.

If being able to nurse Luna wasn't an option, Amber was prepared to skip the celebration without a second thought. After working toward her degree while caring for her children, this might've felt like just another sacrifice that comes along with motherhood. Luckily, Amber received permission from her college to bring Luna to the ceremony, and a stranger snapped a photo of the glowing woman breastfeeding her daughter backstage before getting her diploma.

The photo was shared on Breastfeeding Mama Talk, and the striking image, along with her powerful words, resonated with other moms across the online community.

"I didn't feel like I was doing anything out of the norm, but as I was walking around backstage before the ceremony I started to get compliments as well as eye rolls from people who saw me nursing Luna," she wrote. "Right before I was heading to the main floor, a few women were gushing over the sight of me nursing her and snapped a photo of me. I didn't really think anything of it and just enjoyed Luna's snuggles as I watched the ceremony begin."

From supportive messages from strangers who have been shamed for breastfeeding in public to others who were excited to share their own stories with the new graduate, Amber is just glad that so many men and women have a positive reaction to the candid shot. "That's what it's all about! Uplifting and supporting one another," she told The Huffington Post. "It's a shame that so many women are made to feel uncomfortable doing what is natural."
