Moms Partying With Daughters

Dance the Night Away With Your Daughter? Think Again!

As girls age, it can become difficult to find fun mother-daughter activities, especially when your daughter becomes old enough to visit the hottest clubs. While you may be tempted to throw on a cute outfit and prove to her that mama still has it, it may be best to give your dancing shoes a rest.

Kathryn Smerling, a New York City psychologist, tells ABC News that celebrity culture has lead to the increase in mommy-and-me partying. From the Kardashian clan to a more destructive Dina and Lindsay Lohan, Smerling believes famous families have "brought the unacceptable into our living rooms." She adds that becoming your daughter's clubbing companion can cause resentment too.

"It can very well be destructive to the young girl, especially if the mother is more attractive or more outgoing," Smerling says. "It engenders competition."
