Moms, Why Do We Judge Each Other?

Moms, Why Do We Judge Each Other?

It's always a sad and lonely experience to feel judged by another mom. You think to yourself, shouldn't we all be in this together? We're living parallel lives of loving and raising our children, and we're both dealing with all of the daily minutae and challenges that go along with being a mom. Yet sometimes instead of support, we find criticism. And instead of being the supportive mom and friend we want to be...  we find ourselves judging others too.

The numbers in a recent study are staggering: According to a TODAY Moms/Parenting.com survey, 20% of moms will judge you for not trying to breast-feed, 43% will judge you if you breastfeed for "too long", and 66% will judge you for having a "bratty" child. Mom Sarah Keeler put it like this: "Motherhood is a competition nobody meant to enter."

We do because we are women, and everything is competitive with women. I know I have been judged, and I know I judge others when I shouldn't. I really try to work on it, and think of what it would be like to be in her shoes.
