Mother's Cuddle Brings Baby Out of Coma

A mother's touch is so important for making a child feel loved and secure, and as Adam Cheshire's story shows, it can even bring a child back from the brink of death.

When Adam was one day old, he had violent seizures as a result of Group B Strep Meningitis. He fell into a coma and was put on life support. His parents, Charlotte and Chris Cheshire of Telford, Shropshire, were told that their brand new baby might not make it. But they were also told that skin-to-skin contact might help: "Your baby needs to know you are there," said Charlotte, who could barely move herself as a result of a full pelvic split. Thankfully, Adam's breathing grew strong enough that he could be taken off the ventilator, and during his first cuddle with his mom, he opened his eyes.

Even more amazing: a recent MRI scan of Adam's brain shows that most of the signs of injury from his seizures have healed.
