Jan 17 2013 - 10:23am

Sit back and get comfortable, because you'll likely be spending quite a bit of time in a movie theater this year! The 2013 docket of kid-friendly films is filled with voices mom and dad will recognize and characters tots have seen before. While there are plenty of sequels in this year's lineup, be prepared to fall in love with some new faces as well. Keep reading to see the kiddie flicks we're anticipating the most this year.

Escape From Planet Earth

Jessica Alba [1], Sarah Jessica Parker [2], Brendan Fraser, and James Gandolfini voice the characters in the animated Escape From Planet Earth. The film, about an alien who falls into a trap when he lands on a dangerous planet, comes out in February.

Hell & Back

After their friend is accidentally dragged into hell, two friends must go down there to bring him back in Hell & Back, a flick voiced by Susan Sarandon, Mila Kunis [3], and Michael Peña.

Santapprentice

It wouldn't be the holiday season without a token Santa film. Santapprentice will tell the story of the young orphan designated to succeed the jolly man in the red suit when he finally decides to retire.

Frozen

The fantasy Frozen follows a young girl and a mountain climber who travel over frozen tundras in search of the Snow Queen [4] who turned their kingdom into a snow- and ice-filled land. Voiced by soon-to-be-new-mom Kristen Bell [5], Josh Gad, and Idina Menzel, the flick will hit theaters around Thanksgiving.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman

Leslie Mann, Stanley Tucci, Ty Burrell, and Ariel Winter are the voices behind Mr. Peabody & Sherman, the story of a boy and his genius dog who must chase after their time machine after it is stolen by thieves who want to change history.

Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers

The Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs team is back in the Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers sequel. This time, Flint Lockwood works at The Live Corp Company but must leave when he discovers that his machine is still churning out food-based weather. Anna Faris [6], Neil Patrick Harris [7], and Andy Samberg [8] provide the voices.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters

The Percy Jackson series continues with Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, where Percy and friends must enter the Sea of Monsters to find the Golden Fleece. The flick hits theaters in August.

The Smurfs 2

Get ready to start humming the Smurfs theme song again this Summer. Neil Patrick Harris [9], Sofia Vergara, Christina Ricci [10], and Hank Azaria appear in Smurfs 2, where the lovable blue creatures team up with their human friends to rescue Smurfette, who was taken hostage by Gargamel.

Despicable Me 2

The voices behind the animated characters in Despicable Me 2 are enough to make any parent want to head to the theater — Steve Carell [11], Al Pacino [12], Kristen Wiig, Russell Brand [13], and Miranda Cosgrove, to name a few — but given the popularity of the first movie, there'll be something for everyone when the flick hits theaters in July.

Monsters University

Disney's fun monsters return in June for the new Monsters University. The movie takes us back in time to when Mike and Sulley first met — in college — and went from mismatched monsters to best friends.

Epic

You'll recognize most of the voices in the new Epic film — Steven Tyler, Jason Sudeikis, Beyoncé, Amanda Seyfried [14], and Pitbull — about a teen who's transported deep into the forest where good battles evil.

The Croods

A prehistoric adventure, the Croods — featuring voices from Nicolas Cage [15], Ryan Reynolds [16], and Emma Stone [17] — must leave their cave and find their way around the great big world after a seismic shift. The Croods will make its way into theaters in March.

Planes

The animated Disney flick of the year in 2012 was about a curly-haired girl named Merida who lived in mythological Scotland, but in 2013, we're going into the future with Disney's Planes. The Cars franchise spinoff follows Dusty, a small-town plane that wants to participate in a round-the-world air race. Given the merchandising that surrounds the Cars franchise, this is bound to be the hit of the Summer with its Aug. 9 release.
