Natural Eczema Cure

Lil Tip: Eczema Relief the Natural Way

My six–year–old niece has been through the ringer with eczema since she was born. Cortisone creams and prescribed medications were the only things that kept her from rubbing her beautiful skin raw. Moms hoping to avoid medicinal cures for the common scratchy nuisance may find relief in this homemade paste recipe.

Michele from Glam Spirit uses a combination of Vitamin E oil, Goldenseal powder and honey. Vitamin E oil, as you may know from stretch mark creams, helps heal the skin by keeping it moisturized and therefore, less itchy. Goldenseal is an herb that disinfects and reduces swelling. Honey also reduces inflammation and scarring while the antioxidant agents help heal pained areas.

To see how to make the homemade healer,

.

Once you have all the ingredients, take the Vitamin E oil and mix it with the Goldenseal powder. Then add a small amount of honey. Apply the paste on the infected areas for a healthy and sweet road to recovery.

I would include a warning not to use it on infants under a year, at least on any body part they can put in their mouth and expose themselves to the honey.

I have to completely disagree with your recommendation of using Vitamin E oil. I have had eczema for a few years now and I was recommended to Vitamin E by a friend, well I tried it and I broke out even worse. Many many people are highly allergic to Vitamin E, from especially direct contact with it on your skin (I was told this by my dermatologist who scolded me for putting Vitamin E on my skin). Aveeno makes a really good product for eczema (you can get it from your dermatologist, but I don't think you can get it at drugstores) Also, burts bees honey and butter cream works well. Another "natural" tip is to not take hot showers...make sure they are at least lukewarm or even cold. That will soothe the skin, hot water is very abrasive. Make sure to moisturize right after a bath/shower while the skin is still moist so that it can absorb any lotions or creams. Anyways I just wanted to put that out there about not using Vitamin E so that mothers don't try the Vitamin E and then realize their child is actually allergic.

Love the alternative suggestion to conventional products! Another great tip (along the lines of oatmeal soap) is olive oil soap... Kiss My Face makes a really great one that works well. That and stopping milk made my son's go away completely, never to return.

This is going to sound so nitpicky, but this recipe isn't homeopathic. It is a more herbal, natural solution.

My son suffers from seasonal eczema (colloidal eczema in the winter) and his doc just tells me to use cortisone cream, he really never suggests any homeopathic remedies. I'll have to try this.

Another good tip is, oatmeal soap. My SIL recommended this to me for my eczema. I had a really bad patch of it on my neck and she told me to try oatmeal soap, i ran out and bought some and it cleared up within 2 days. I have used it ever since.

My sister in law made me a similar salve for my itchy, pregnant skin and it works very well.
