They say necessity is the mother of invention, which explains why there are so many exciting new products introduced into the baby and children category each year. Every parent who's ever struggled with a stroller that didn't fit their exact needs, a sippy cup that just didn't work right, or a pacifier that was dirty more often than not has thought to themselves "there's got to be a better way."

After seeing and touching more than 130 new products at the ABC Kids Expo back in late 2016, we can honestly tell you that yes, there is a better way! Upon reflection, these are the 15 products we couldn't wait to see come on the market that are now available. Which ones will make your life easier?

Sago Mini Tuck Me In Quilt

Perhaps the most adorable item we saw was Sago Mini's new Tuck Me In Quilt ($100). Created by the dad behind the Sago Mini apps for kids, the quilt is designed with pockets kids can use to tuck their stuffed animals into bed each night. In the coming year, the company hopes to introduce themed versions of the quilt, too.

Lulujo Baby’s First Year Blanket

We’ve got Instagram to thank for this one! The new generation of monthly photos isn’t complete with just a belly sticker adhered to a onesie. Now, Lulujo has created a photo-ready set ($20) — with a large muslin blanket and 14 coordinating cards — perfect for sharing your baby’s growth on social media.

One chair, three stages of incredible, lust-worthy design! Created by Norwegian designer Peter Opsvik for his granddaughter, the ergonomically superior chair ($299) can be used from infancy, and it is beyond comfortable for even adults! Not only is it beautiful, but it’s also seamless to adjust, and it even can rest on a table when you need to clean underneath it.

A combination nightlight and flashlight, the Boon Gleam ($40) projects colorful images on little ones' walls as they fall asleep. Once they awake and pick it up, the bottom becomes a flashlight for late-night trips down the hallway.

Baby Dam

For every parent who's ever wondered why they had to fill an entire tub to wash their tiny tot, there's the Baby Dam ($40). The flexible device fits almost every US bath (the device is being adjusted to fit US tubs, which are wider and shorter than their British counterparts).

Silver Cross Wave

Silver Cross Wave

Silver Cross prams have been a British royal family staple since the 1920s, but today's families just don't have the space to store the classic prams. That's why the company introduced the Silver Cross Wave ($1,299) to the US market. The Wave, which easily converts into a double-tandem stroller at no extra cost, comes with a bassinet and a reversible seat featuring marled jersey fabric and leatherette detailing. It truly is a beauty!

09

Cybex Platinum Baby Carrier

Cybex introduced a new baby carrier that combines the hip structure of a baby carrier with the ease and softness of a wrap. It can be used in three positions — parent-facing, side-facing, and back carrier. The Platinum Baby Carrier ($260) can hold children up to 27 pounds and features a flower-like opening as children grow.

Skiddies

Skiddies

After his grandson had trouble wiping himself after using the bathroom and the boy's mom threw away a few too many pairs of underpants, a grandfather created Skiddies ($10 for 30)! The 100 percent cotton patches with FDA-approved stickies on the back adhere directly to the back of kids' underpants, saving undies everywhere. The adhesive pieces are so soft that kids will never even realize they're there!

4Moms Moxi

4Moms Moxi

The new 4Moms Moxi stroller ($500, originally 700) is a fun and practical update on the original Origami. A generator powered by pushing the stroller powers the headlights and taillights, as well as the LCD screen mounted on the handlebar. That screen monitors your mileage, speed, and burned calories and also houses a socket for USB cords. The stroller also features a reversible seat (which converts into a bassinet) and a larger under basket for storage.

12

Doodle & Co's The Pop Pacifier

One of our most innovative finds at the show was Doodle & Co's The Pop Pacifier ($10). The pacifiers form a protective bubble around the nipple of a pacifier to prevent parents from having to suck the dirt off of the bulbs themselves.

Starling by VersaMe Word Tracker

More than 80 percent of a child’s brain growth happens in the first three years — shouldn’t we make sure we’re setting them up for success? Enter: Starling by VersaMe ($150), a word-tracking wearable that you can clip right onto your baby’s onesie. It counts all words — regardless of language — said to your little one each day and provides goal-oriented suggestions to keep that number on the rise. Trust us that this simple device will make you eager to read “one more” book at bedtime — that’s another 200 words at least!
