Parents of Twins More Likely To Suffer Mental Illness

Parents of twins are more likely to have mental health issues than those who have single born children, according to a recent report.

Finnish researchers tracked parents of about 100 twins and more than 700 single born babies and found the parents of twins had more depression, anxiety and other problems than parents of single born babies. Dr. Laurence Shaw, who worked on the study, didn't seem surprised by the results. He said:

"It's stressful to have a baby, and even more stressful to have more babies...The message is not that parents of twins are nutters.

Shaw added that with the increase of twin births due to artificial reproduction techniques (such as In Vitro Fertilization) he thinks doctors and parents need to be more conscious of the costs of having twins. Sounds like the doc should call Jon and Kate Plus 8 — they know a thing or two about trying to stay sane while raising multiples!

Yep, it's stressful but fun! Not all that sure about having mental issues though! That's an over statement!

Yeah I was thinking that was a Duh as well. I have one 6 month old and really don't know how any of you guys do it. I know it's twice the fun and all but I am stretched so thin without multiples. I also plan to use the term "nutters" now ;-)

Ha! I read this and went DUH!! I could have told you that! Having multiples in incredibly stressful, and difficult for those outside of the multiples world to understand. I am not at all surprised about these stats.

Oh that's whats wrong with me. HAHA. But seriously I think children keep you from going crazy. Once you have done everything you wanted to ,what more is there. You have someone to focus on besides your self all the time. And a person to explore the world with though new eyes. They are a lot of work, but they bring great joy also. And when you are old and grey how will come visit you.

I am a horrible human being. As soon as I saw this headline I wanted to print it, use it as letterhead, and send my dad a note. He retired to become my sister's "manny". She has five girls including a set of twins that drive not only her but him crazy. LOL!
