What It'd Look Like If Dr. Seuss Wrote a Children's Book About Breastfeeding

It's World Breastfeeding Week, so tonight, instead of reading to your kids from a tattered copy of The Cat in the Hat or reciting every memorized verse from Oh, the Places You'll Go!, we'd like to suggest another bedtime story — one a bit more appropriate for all the nursing moms out there. It's called The Places You'll Feed!, and it's amazing.

The Dr. Seuss parody, by Lauren Hirshfield Belden, is a refreshingly honest look at what it's really like for new moms trying to breastfeed, whether it's "on a train! on a plane! at a game in the rain!" or "on a ride! side by side! where there's nowhere to hide!"

Inspired by the author's own daunting experience feeding her first daughter, the silly verses and captivating illustrations perfectly capture the joys and pitfalls of nursing in public, struggling to latch, and carting that breast pump around. It's Seussian enough for kids but relatable enough for any mom.

Before you order a copy (a hardcover copy is available for $15 on Amazon), take a sneak peek at some of our favorite pages. And just remember . . .

There's milk in your boobs.
Your babe needs to eat.
It's time to get topless,
and offer a teat!
