I don't see what the hugs fuss is. There is nothing wrong with this!

Oprah wants the world to have sympathy for this sort of behavior?? For what?? These people have problems with the way life really is. They have life so confused, and so does she. You are supposed to love everyone, but this just takes the cake. You don't have to go along with the choices people make, and make it okay just because a celebrity endorses such behavior. This is just wrong. This is just asking for a freak show. I guess this woman and her woman got what they wanted to help pay for the medical bills. Now it really would be a medical event if a man really got pregnant. This has been happening to women since forever. Its nothing new, so get over it.

I am absolutely disgusted by this subject matter. And to celebrate it is even more revolting. Come on Oprah. What the hell.

This sick and twisted. Oprah what have u resulted to. U should have just hooked up with Jerry Spinger. In this case you are no different from the foolishness he has on his shows. This sick and unnatural. Men cannot have babies. He is a woman. Dont care how much drugs, injections, facial hair or mens clothing you put on this character. She is still a woman.

Akirstin that's a pretty harsh comment. So when someone doesn't agree with you it's OK to be mean?

Notice to the world, "Men do not get pregnant!" Having a surgery does not make a person a man. If you were born a woman, you are still a woman. How ignorant can we become as a society?

It's not freak of nature that a naturally "born woman" carry a child.He/She must have been very confused during gender re-assignment..."Oh I want a penis, but save my uterus".Talk about gender confusion. This one takes the cake!Come on Oprah give us a break!

I saw it and it was actually quite sad. They seemed really lovely and not in it for the money, although you can never really tell. Nancy's 2 elder daughters were really supportive. I don't like the way it was all sensationalised though to make it seem like it was a man who was pregnant when he was physically still female just without the breasts. I agree with colormesticky regarding the inconsistency with the laws for gay couples and this couple who is essentially a lesbian couple.

And why doesn't he get some antennas transplanted into his head, he can then claim he is a martian also!

It makes me ill to even look at this freak, passing on freak genes to a new generation. How very sad.

I'm watching the show now - these people don't seem to be telling their story for financial reasons. I find their situation very moving and interesting. Particularly the part when Thomas said something to the effect of "I don't feel feminine for being pregnant. Reproduction is a human desire, and I have the right to have biological children." I feel very disappointed in the doctors who declined to treat this couple - a person is a person, doesn't matter what they look like on the outside, everyone is entitled to medical care. Those docs wouldn't turn down a patient for any other issue regarding looks (such as if a patient were "ugly" or "hairy" or "too skinny" etc.), the fact that Thomas looks like a man on the outside shouldn't matter to a medical professional.

"Sorry. I don't need my kids thinking all of this is appropriate." Erthed, it's unfortunate you don't let your kids have a mind of their own. Hopefully one day they will realize being an individual means forming your own ideas of what is right or wrong.

he stopped taking testosterone before trying to conceive, if i recall correctly from the article on advocate.com. people here sure are quick to judge! i think it's great to challenge gender roles, even if it is difficult for many people to wrap their minds around this. i also don't think he and his partner are doing this for the money. i think it's a good way to bring trans / & gender issues up for the general public that they typically don't think about. i think it's pretty awesome, myself.

For some reason, I'm not interested in this person's story. My point was that I was annoyed with the media for making headlines such as "pregnant male"! I think anyone who has half a brain can figure out that no "normally" endowed male can possibly become pregnant. Why do things always have to get twisted and sensationalized?
AKirstin AKirstin 8 years
romaniagrl, you need to read the whole story.

I saw these headlines for a while and could have cared less. How stupid does one have to be to believe for even one second that a man, without ovaries and a uterus, can possibly be pregnant? I thought Oprah was above such sensational topics, this sounds more like a Maury episode to me. :oy: :OY: :OY:

All that really matters here is that they are a happy family. ;) Anyone who pooh-poohs love in any form can suck it.

Colormesticky-That's exactly what bothers me....more than the "holy crap a man becomes pregnant!" thing.
7kimba7 7kimba7 8 years
colormesticky- that's a really good point. and yes, I fail to understand the drama with this story. I was like whoa, man pregnant??? but as soon as I read the article I thought yeah, that's not a man. that's a woman who didn't finish surgery. So someone with an intact female reproductive system is having a baby? YOU DON'T SAY.

I agree Lickety - This is obviously more for the financial gain of things. Why else are you on Oprah and telling your sotory to anyone who will listen.
colormesticky colormesticky 8 years
I don't have a problem with it. My big issue is that the government recognizes him as a man when he's obviously not, and allowed the two of them to marry and receive all the benefits of married couples. Technically, Thomas is still a woman. That makes them a lesbian couple, which is illegal. It isn't fair to make exceptions. All or nothing, but getting rid of your boobs and taking testosterone shouldn't make you any more special than any other gay couple.

makes me feel sick. in addition to everything said above it occurs to me that the reason for the pregnancy is freak-show status. do it in private, for the joy of being a parent, for the love of your unborn children with your partner, not so you can go on oprah and dish the juicy details. blech.
