Pregnant Woman Gets Pushed on Bus

Babysugar Diaries: Move It Pregnant Lady!

My bus route provides some sort of entertainment value on most days. This morning, I was at the center of the drama.

Every morning at my local bus stop, this one crazy lady comes rushing up to the curb and pushes everyone else out of her way so she can scurry on board first and do her makeup sitting down. The first person in line, I was sure I would be able to rest my laurels for the short ride to work. As the bus pulled up, the wacky woman came flying down the block and threw herself in front of the bus making it come to a stop. Irritated by her actions, the bus then moved up leaving her a few steps behind. Not to deter her, she came roaring back and pushed me aside. My bump may not be at the full nine month capacity but it's obvious that I am expecting. To see what happened,

.

The bus route manager yelled at the woman, "You're going to push the PREGNANT woman out of the way!?" Empowered by his remarks to her, I felt sure she would back up and give me the space to board ahead of her. Stubborn as ever, she went ahead of me while people behind me scolded her actions. Neither of us got a seat right away but karma paid her a visit — after one stop, I found an empty spot while she stood the remainder of the ride.

What would you have done in my situation?

Um, yeah right. My sisters would have been there and punched the lady and would have broken her nose. Then we would have called a cab. :)

I say hover over her next time she doesn't give up a seat. Let see how easy it is to put makeup on when a pregnant belly is in her face :)

Jessie, your comment made me laugh! And, just to clarify, I didn't put myself in her way - she came and pushed me as I stood there minding my own business waiting for the bus. She has no respect for her fellow bus riders - pregnant or not.

she sounds like a complete freak, and pregnant or not what she did was unacceptable.

Oh she must be crazy to have pushed you to the side. I would have said a lot to her. And after I would have told my husband and mother she would have had to deal with them.

Something similar happened to me last week. I was on a full bus and was finally able to find a seat, when my stop came I got up to walk to the back of the bus and well I guess I wasn't moving fast enough because the woman behind me kept pushing me and stepped on my heel and I "stepped" out of my sandel, as I stopped to put my sandel back on she kept pushing, finally I turned around and said I was moving as fast as I could but that I'm limited being 6 months pregnant. She made a snotty remark of course. I don't get why people are so rude, especially when it comes to the bus. I have had the same thing you described happen to me. My other gripe is that people don't really form lines on my bus route, they just push their way up to the front. How is this fair?!

Mean lady! I hate when people are selfish like that. I was lucky all through my pregnancy people were very thoughtful. I think it was Karma because I always used to help pregnant women.

I probably would have given her my best Amy Poehler "Really???".There were so many times I had to stand and get pushed around when I was hugely pregnant on the NYC subway during rush hour. One time I was visibly not feeling well and dizzy and one person who was on the train with me every day but was on the other side of the car made eye contact to see if I was ok, but no one let me sit down.

Wow. I mean, wow. I would have said, loudly, "Well looks like neither of us got a seat!" and glared at the people not getting up. :)

Since she'd displayed unsafe behavior in the past, I wouldn't have put myself in her path in the first place. A moving bus didn't stop her, why would I think a pregnant woman would?

honestly, i prolly would of done nothing, what goes around usually comes around. hopefully on her way home she had to stand next to big sweaty guy farting in her general direction.

Whoa, what is wrong with people these days?? I am glad that the bus driver and others gave this woman what for. Sounds like she is seriously self-absorbed! You gotta love karma! :-)I am kinda surprised that no one else got up and offered you a seat, though - geez!

I might have let it slide in the beginning of my pregnancy... because sometimes it's not worth it getting aggravated, but if it was later in my pregnancy when i was huge & tired... she would have had a psycho preggo on her hands... i had a meltdown on the subway when i was about 8 months... people were pushing behind me to get on (it was very crowded) and you get nervous, you're protecting your belly & i flipped... and i think i scared some people (got three seat offers) i remember yelling like a lunatic... i'm pregnant stop pushing me and this baby...(i'm sure there were curses in there as well i dont really recall)... i left work early after that... so as not to encounter the train that crowded again.

Yeah I would have yelled at her, I know I couldn't keep my mouth shut when something upset me, the words just came flying out. I guess you have much more patience then me.

man what a rude lady, i cant believe she did that and had no remorse. If i was on the bus with you and sitting down I would have given you my seat just in spite of the lady and because it is the right thing to do. i have noticed that people tend to have a lack of care for pregnant people, many times I was shocked how people where when I was nearing the end of my pregnancy last year.
