Quiz on Developmental Milestones for Kids

Do You Know Baby's First Year Milestones?

Every infant and child develops at his or her own unique rate — the process is part of what makes parenting so surprising and rewarding. However, there is a commonly accepted time line of developmental milestones that most doctors follow when measuring our lil ones against the rest of the pack.

Yes, some children develop faster and slower than others and are still within the range doctors consider normal, healthy and on-track developmentally. If you are ever worried about your child's development you should talk to your pediatrician.

See if you've been studying up on your parenting books — or paid close attention to milestones with your wee one — by taking my quiz.

schnappycat... dont worry.... i think all babies HATE tummy time at first. I know our lil guy couldnt go for more than a few minutes on his tummy at 3 mos before he was howling... BUT... we kept at it... eventually he got so p!ssed he'd lift his head just so he could howl a lil louder! and the praise and smiles and the 'good boys' he got helped him get better w/it... and now (he just turned 5 mos) he tolerates it a lot longer, and i hear they start to actually ENJOY tummy time after awhile! (we'll see) ha....

I know because I was waiting for all of them very cautiously. I'm not sure we had a word at 12 months, actually, although now at 16 months we've made up for it - she seems to know the word for everything, although saying it in a way anyone but ME would understand is still quite a way beyond her. I thought mine would never like tummy time, never get it, she hated being put on her tummy, and then suddenly one day she just lifted right up, it was like the end of Dirty Dancing...

too easy but fun and short! 100% i guess i know more than i thought. my little one was not a fan of tummy time but now at 3 months he likes it with daddy at certain times, his head is well proportioned to his body(maybe even smaller than average) so maybe thats why its not too bad now as his neck is slowly getting stronger. i dont think you should worry , Cat! some times we put him angled up on a pillow to help

I'm a tad worried about my son because he'll be 3 mos next week and has no interest in lifting his head up while on his tummy (he hates tummy time). He does have a very large head, though, so maybe it will just take him longer. I hope, anyhow. He seems fine otherwise.

Wow, I didn't know that crawling and sitting w/out support was at 9 months. I thought it was before that. Although I may only think that b/c the lil boy I babysit now is 6 1/2 months and just started crawling and sitting w/out support (about a week ago!). I answered most of these questions b/c of my time spent w/ him :)
