Recall After Recall

It seems like there is another toy being recalled every day. Last week, Aqua Dots, Curious George, Wendy Bellissimo cribs, Dollar Store children's sunglasses, and Fisher Price medical kits were just some of the items recalled.

How are these products making it to the shelves in the first place? Wouldn't it make sense to test products before they go on sale?

BabyCenter has implemented their own process for recalled toys and is taking the following actions:

  • Notifying people who have purchased a recalled product within 24 hours of its recall.
  • Testing all products sold on the site.
  • Displaying the origin of select toys and products.
  • Posting unedited product reviews.
  • To keep abreast of recalls, you can subscribe to an email alert from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

    Play safe!

The Fisher Price medical kit hasn't been recalled, but Consumer Reports did find a "worrisome" level of lead in the blood pressure cuff. I read that Amazon pulled the product after CR ran the story. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/babies-kids/child-safety/indoors/kids-and-lead/lead-in-childrens-products-12-07/overview/lead-ov.htm

We had a couple of Geo Trax trains that were on the list but luckily they were not made during the time period indicated on the recall. I think that for the most part I will still be buying the toys my kids like, but I'll be keeping a close eye on the recall list and just dispose of any that are recalled.

The fisher price recalls are getting old. My sons take along open top rain forest swing was recalled for entrapment hazards. They sent me a 60 dollar coupon so I had to buy there products again. Something I didnt want to do but went ahead and got the 2 in 1 Kitchen living room set. And now thats being recalled as it has a choking hazard this time there not offering there coupon only a fix it kit. Hmm yea I dont want there shiz anymore. In fact that reminds me now to call them bc I dont want there fix it kit I want my money. I prolly wont buy mattel ever again.

I can't find any recall information anywhere on the Fisher Price medical kit. I looked at Consumer Reports, the CPSC, BabyCenter and Fisher Price's website. Does anyone have any info on it? I was thinking of buying it for my son for Christmas!

Just let your kids play with rocks and sticks. That should be safe - (if they don't throw it or poke you.) :-)

You should have a segment where whoever wants to look at the most recent recalls ... can! Like the buzzsugar "What to Tivo" Have a Babysugar "Recall List" That way if there's anything going on with new product toy recalls, it would be there...

Either we've been incredibly lucky or I haven't been paying close enough attention to the recalls... but so far, it seems like all of my daughter's toys are okay.

I cringed when I heard about the Curious George dolls. Fortunately, my son loves one that wasn't on the recall list. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle taking away something he loves so much. I guess it would just disappear.
