Revamping Baby's Room: Easy DIY Changing Pad

Revamping Baby's Room: Easy DIY Changing Pad

This post was submitted by hestadalen in the Revamping Baby's Room group.

This was so simple to whip up tonight. Seriously, between ironing, measuring, and sewing, it took maybe 20 minutes. I used an Ikea baby changing pad inside the fabric, and then measured and sewed the fabric. The fabric, too, is from Ikea, and is ridiculously trippy and silly. I love the swimming goats on it. It also slips on and off easily for cleaning purposes. I should probably sew a couple more covers just to be safe.

Since we're going to be sleeping with the soon-to-arrive baby in our room, we're leaving this room as a half-nursery, half-guest room for now, so we're trying to integrate things somewhat, which means that the cradle is in the corner of the room, waiting to move to our bedroom, and that the sleeper sofa will likely stay in this room for a while.

I found this oak dresser on CL; it's about 100 years old, very solid construction. I switched out the hardware, but I'm really tempted to do something fun with it, perhaps with wallpaper or stencils, but I also hate it when people sometimes ruin a perfectly good piece of furniture with hasty DIYs, and at this point in my pregnancy I think that the DIY would likely be hasty! So, I may just let this one sit for a while.

On the top of a dresser is a crate with a couple of on-the-go changing pads I sewed out of Amy Butler fabric, with a terrycloth towel for the interior, so it's a little cushioned. Next up on my list of projects? A Lotta Jansdotter-patterned snuggler, and a few more go-anywhere small quilts/blankets that I can put the babe down on when we're out and about.

I love the fun fabric, but then again I'm a sucker for bright colored baby rooms.
